Care Guide
A ring made to last a lifetime deserves to be looked after. Here is how.
Do
- Clean weekly with warm water, mild soap, and a soft-bristled brush (a baby toothbrush is ideal)
- Store each piece separately in its pouch or box to prevent scratching
- Take your ring to a jeweller annually for a professional clean and prong inspection
- Remove your ring before applying lotions, perfume, or hairspray
- Have your platinum ring re-polished every few years to restore its lustre
Do Not
- Remove before swimming — chlorine weakens gold alloys and can loosen settings over time
- Remove before the gym — impact sports and heavy lifting can bend prongs
- Remove before sleeping — bedding can catch on settings and stress prongs over thousands of nights
- Do not use ultrasonic cleaners without professional advice — some stones and settings are not suitable
- Do not expose to harsh chemicals — bleach, acetone, and cleaning products will damage metal and stones
Care by Metal
Platinum
Develops a natural patina over time — many prefer this aged quality. Re-polish with a professional jeweller every few years to restore brightness. Scratches displace rather than remove metal, so platinum does not diminish with wear.
18k White Gold
Rhodium plating wears gradually, causing a slight warmth to appear at the edges. Re-plate every 1–2 years at any jeweller. This is normal, inexpensive, and takes under an hour.
18k Yellow Gold
Clean regularly and inspect prongs annually. Does not require plating. Scratches may appear over time — professional polishing restores the surface.
18k Rose Gold
Same care as yellow gold. The copper content may cause minor skin reactions in very sensitive individuals — if this occurs, switch to platinum.
